          I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2014. After years of irregular menstrual cycles and infertility, I decided to seek help. I was referred to Kristi and Holistic Nutrition Center from my chiropractor, Dr. Tony Fedoryk, from E.T. Chiropractic, and I decided to give them a call.

          HERE ARE 7 ESSENTIAL TIPS ON HOW TO READ NUTRITION LABELS

           If the ingredient list exceeds more than 10 ingredients for a simple food (or so you thought) you might want to reconsider buying it or get out google to look up ingredients that don’t look or sound natural
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Look for gluten free (GF) label on the front of the items such as crackers, breads, pastas, bagels when purchasing grain items
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Make sure to read the serving size and the amount of grams to understand how much you can eat of a product. For example, a 2 tbs serving of honey equals 17 grams of sugar. This way you can keep track of how much sugar you are taking in. Do this for all foods and beverages. Another example is juice. 1 cup of orange juice is equal to 29 grams of sugar.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           When you see natural flavors that can be a red flag for chemical components in there. Why wont they just list the ingredient? Why cover it up with natural flavors? I am very suspicious of that ingredient. With some companies you will have to dig and ask what their natural flavors are made of so if you are not wanting to go further in your detective work I would avoid this one to be sure you’re not ingesting chemicals.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Major ingredients or words to look for in food and beverages are “enriched or bleached, partially hydrogenated, canola oil, soybean oil, vegetable oil, aspartame, added sugar, food colors and dyes (yellow, red and blue), artificial flavors, natural flavors, farmed, grain fed, concentrate (usually found in juices)”.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           Look at the carbohydrates and make sure you stick to the serving size. For example GF bread serving size is one slice which equals to 20 grams of carbohydrates. I would try to stick to the serving size in a meal. When you consume high carb foods, your glucose levels rise and then your insulin has to rise to lower the sugars which blocks the mobilization of fat and stores it instead. Over time, this makes us feel tired because you stressed out your stress adapting organs such as pancreas and adrenal glands.
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
           If your fats are coming from healthy fat oils such as olive oil, lard, coconut oil, nut oils, palm oil, sunflower oil, I am not concerned with how much fat grams are in the food. 
          &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;

          #1 Tip to my clients who are struggling with losing weight: If you are working out 5-7 days per week and still not losing or have plateaued… I strongly recommend to add in more rest days and take it down to 3 days per week and let your body recover and rest. Recovery days are when the body can let go of the weight because you are not putting your body under so much stress. In today’s world, we are already under so much stress that sometimes exercise can add to that in a negative way and can act as a barrier in the weight department.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

          Aim for at minimum 150 minutes of cardiovascular work (Run, Jog, Walk, Elliptical, Stairs, Rowing, etc.) per week plus 2 strength/resistance training sessions (Weight Lifting, Yoga, TRX Suspension Bands, Circuit Training, Pilates, etc.)
         &#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
          TIps: During the day on a lunch break or in between work, take a walk outside in fresh air for at least 30 minutes. This changes your mindset and keeps you on the path to health!

          Also, have a cup of chamomile tea before bed to encourage sleepy time.

          P.S. *If your someone who likes oatmeal here is how we traditionally need to eat it to digest it and have it give us energy and not spike our insulin.

          plain organic oats in a bowl, cover it with warm water, squeeze a wedge of lemon in there, add a tbs of whole milk yogurt in there and cover with paper towel and leave over night. Then wake up to warm it in the pan and add a small amount of organic maple syrup. This way it has fermented over night and our body can actually get the nutrients from a grain that it offers. It will feed our bellies good bacteria to digest the grain and it has been soaked over night so the grain can break down toxins it carries and be ever so gentle on the digestion!

          I love the Whole foods buffet! On Wednesdays are discounted . Mine and River’s meal was only $10! I got a nice big organic green salad with a healthy chicken drumstick with the skin on it. We went to the store hungry and that never works! I love @wholefoods for that reason, we can eat then shop all in the same place. Whole Foods makes this easy, colorful, and healthy!

          Simple Mills has a delicious pumpkin mix that: 1)contains less than half the sugar &amp;amp; carbohydrates of leading baking mix brands, 2) is free of Gluten, Grains, Soy, Corn, Dairy &amp;amp; Gums/Emulsifiers, and 3) is Paleo-Friendly. It can be made into muffins or a loaf and is only made with Almond Flour, Organic Coconut Sugar, Pumpkin, Arrowroot, Organic Coconut Flour, Organic Spices (Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cloves), Baking Soda, and Sea Salt.
